As an eldest sibling and cousin there is often this feeling of being a role model. Siblings often argue and fight, however there is a bond between them that is deem unbreakable, no matter what happens. Siblings will always be there to support each other, whether younger or older. My mom used to always tell me that when her and my dad move on from this life, I should always check up and support my siblings from afar. When Owen approached me about a piece he wanted to commission I was immediately interested. I have not written much for percussion, let alone a solo percussion instrument. This piece was a challenge for me to write, especially with a serious dedication that Owen requested. I, personally, do not know Owen’s brothers but I know my own siblings, and from Owen’s words about his brothers, I can tell that the three of them share a special connection. “My brothers are both very smart and funny people. They both work hard and work even harder when it comes to the things that they love to do and overall are both creative people. While they are both great with how they go about talking to people, Ian is a little bit more reserved and introverted while Riley tends to say what he thinks and is a big extrovert at times. They both have helped me along throughout difficult times in my life as well.” This piece is dedicated to all siblings. Even with all the arguments, fights and trouble may we all continue to support one another.
