NASA's rovers and other space exploration tools are named after some of the finest human qualities: Curiosity, Ingenuity, and, most recently, Perseverance, which joined the ranks in February 2021. I vividly recall watching the livestream of the Perseverance rover landing during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sight of NASA engineers, masked and seated at their computers, serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges we all faced. When the rover successfully touched down, the room erupted in screams of joy and relief as the engineers cried and embraced each other, celebrating the success they shared. It was truly a marvelous thing to witness this display of human resilience and connection. The material in this piece for solo vibraphone is a transcription of my improvised reaction to that extraordinary event, capturing the emotions and energy of the experience in real-time.
