“I see the Illumination.” 《俺は、光が見える…》(2024) for tape and vibraphone, is the sequel of “You are beautiful “ 《君は、 美しい …》(2023) for Piano, Flute and Percussion. The compositional series was inspired by the romance novel “Utsukushii Kare” 《美しい彼》(2021), written by Japanese litterateur Nagira Yuu.
In contrast to the previous composition, “I see the Illumination.” narrates the love story from the perspective of another protagonist, the “King”, which broadly demonstrates sound effects. Considering the usage of chords is in supplemental function, the musical structure focuses on the variation within harmony and tone, to imply feeling the light shine from his secret admirer, as the representing protagonist in the earlier work “You are beautiful “. From being neither friendly nor aloof, the interaction between the two is developing to mutually influencing, courting, appreciating, and further embellishing each of their lives.
Story plot:
Kind of an ordinary love story, “Utsukushii Kare” mainly describes the mutual affection between the two schoolmates. One of the protagonists suffered a stutter from birth, which means having difficulties in speaking, he was further unfortunately being bullied due to by his peers, which in turn causes his extreme and gloomy character in his growth.
The young boy secretly admired the charmer ‘King’ in his school, “King” is also unexpectedly the only person who shows the protagonist kindness, which leads to the beginning of admiration towards that irresistible ‘King’.
However, the extraordinary affection for 'King' caused his extremely fanatical desire for his love. The mindless worshiping reflected the "King" was as great as a god in his heart. "King" is as beautiful as the glimmering stars in the darkest sky, as well as a goddess of beauty bathed in a golden river.
