Written in 2024, “Ephemeral Universes” is a piece for euphonium and vibraphone. It was commissioned by The Moreau |VanTuinen Duo for their performance at the 2024 International Women’s Brass Conference in Mito City, Japan. Humans tend to put themselves in the center of everything as if the universe rotates around them. Does that mean that there is more than just one universe? Is every human a tiny universe of their own? Those tiny universes are born and die in nebulas. Some perhaps never become what they are meant to be and stay unrealized universes. Others burn bright and have a short time before their zenith. Universes might be ephemeral and eternal at the same time – the paradox of life.
